Inclusive Gymnastics Programming
The Yellowknife Gymnastics Club (YKGC) is proud to offer a welcoming, inclusive gymnastics program designed for individuals with cognitive or physical disabilities. This adaptive program provides one-hour weekly sessions focused on fundamental movement skills tailored to each participant's unique needs.
Classes are thoughtfully structured with 6–8 participants in low-sensory environments, using modified equipment and visual or sensory aids to support engagement and skill development. Participants are encouraged to follow routines, explore new movements, and connect with peers in a supportive setting. With an emphasis on inclusion, confidence-building, and community, YKGC’s adaptive programming ensures every athlete feels seen, supported, and celebrated.
For Schools
For the past nine years, we have partnered with staff and students from Yellowknife Education District No. 1 and Yellowknife Catholic Schools to create an inclusive gymnastics program. This program runs for one hour each week and focuses on adaptive fundamental movements designed to meet each student's unique needs.
There are no set criteria for participation; instead, we depend on support staff to identify students who would benefit most from the program, considering their physical, emotional, and social needs.
